What
At the COUNTERCLOCK Arts Collective, we believe that all art is inherently interdisciplinary. Auditory signals spark certain brushstrokes; poetry fuses images and lyric with text. Collaboration across disciplines creates works of immersion, magic, and transportation; the very act of artistic collaboration is a direct channel for empathy and awareness.
The Arts Collective is a fellowship program that allows creative writers, visual artists, and musicians to explore, illuminate, and grow through collaborating on interdisciplinary projects.
Fellows participate in a free 8-week collaborative program, connect with talented and passionate peers, have around-the-clock access to highly accomplished mentors, and are eligible for a monetary stipend to help them pursue projects and arts-related initiatives.
We hope that CAC fellows can emerge from the program with the vision and connections to make a change in the world of the creative arts.
Who are the fellows?
We seek to create an open, diverse, and empathetic space for young artists to push the edge of the envelope, particularly in a collaborative sense. Thus, we are looking for fellows who are passionate and inquisitive about improving their craft and working alongside other artists, and who hail from a wide range of cultural and geographic backgrounds.
At the end of the program, monetary stipends of $100 are given to 3 fellows to allow them to pursue arts-related projects or jumpstart organizations.
All creative writers, musicians, and visual artists who are under the age of 22 and have not yet published a full-length book, shown in a major gallery (with the exception of student-only exhibits), and signed a contract with a record label are eligible to apply. Fellows may only participate in one discipline.
When
The 2020 CAC program takes place online from June 13 - August 8. The online program can be paired with other commitments.
How does the program work?
Based off of the submitted application materials and interview results, the CAC team places fellows into three-person cohorts, each containing an artist from each discipline. Each cohort will collaborate heavily over the following weeks and bond through brainstorm and progress report Skype calls. Each week, fellows request and receive formal written feedback from a mentor of their choice.
Fellows utilize the works of their cohort members as inspiration and base narrative for their own artistic creations; at the end of the program, each cohort produces a tridisciplinary project loosely revolving around one theme. We hope our fellows take this opportunity to weave together the fabrics of each art to explore the frontiers of humanity and creativity side-by-side.
There are various bonding opportunities throughout, such as exclusive Facebook livestreams of prominent artists performing their work, discussions and debates on pieces of art which offer commentary on social themes, peer review opportunities, and pen pal pairings.
Mentors
Mentors are passionate artists in their discipline who provide written feedback for 1-2 fellows a week. Fellows have access to a roster of all mentors and their work samples and select a mentor from whom to request feedback. To learn more about our mentors, click the links below.
